Intraneural Recording for Neuroprosthetic Use: Normal Action Potential Shapes and Blocking Effects
نویسنده
چکیده
For neuroprosthetic use of afferent activity, model results and experimental recordings of action potentials (ap's) made with Tungsten micro electrodes in rat peronedsural nerve are presented and compared. The model shows that the normal shape can be as well biphasic as triphasic, depending on extraneural conductivity. In the experiments, five classes of ap shapes are observed, of which two are seen in the model too; part of the other shapes may be tentatively ascribed to propagation-block or propagation-start phenomena.

The ideal neuroprosthetic interface permits high-quality neural recording and stimulation of the nervous system while reliably providing clinical benefits over chronic periods. Although current technologies have made notable strides in this direction, significant improvements must be made to better achieve these design goals and satisfy clinical needs. This article provides an overview of the s...

Background & Aim:Auditory steadystate response (ASSR) is an oscillation in the electrical potential recorded from the scalp. In this study, the possible effects of shifting the response recording channel on 40Hz ASSR thresholds and their recording times were evaluated and compared.Patients and Method:In this cross-sectionalstudy, 30 subjects with normal hearing (thresholds of 500 to 4000 ...
متن کاملEffects of ionic parameters on behavior of a skeletal muscle fiber model
All living cells have a membrane which separates inside the cell from it's outside. There is a potential difference between inside and outside of the cell. This potential difference will change during an action potential. It is quite common to peruse action potentials of skeletal muscle fibers with the Hodgkin-Huxley model. Since Hodgkin and Huxley summarized some controlling currents like inwa...

While the effect of changes of stimulus waveform (quasitrapezoidal and rectangular current pulses) on nerve activation is clear, but there is no evidence on the effect of quasitrapezoidal pulses on ionic currents of cellular membrane. In the present study, the effect of depolarizing quasi-trapezoidal current pulses, in comparison with that of depolarizing rectangular current pulses, on firing...
متن کاملCD147 (Extracellular Matrix Metalloproteinase Inducer-EMMPRIN) Expression by Human Articular Chondrocytes
Background: Integrins are a family of transmembrane proteins that allow communication between the extracellular matrix and the interior of cells. Chondrocytes, cells of articular cartilage, express integrins and these molecules appear to have a variety of roles including mechanotransduction. Integrins are known to associate with a number of accessory molecules such as CD147 that may act to regu...
